The Building Series Type C prints, 24 x 24 inches each 2002 The eight photographs in the series "The Life and Death of Buildings" use image fragments of urban settings in various stages of growth and decay. Taken from mass media sources, these photographs comment on the transformation of urban spaces. Anonymous figures depicted as shadows and silhouettes move through these urban landscapes connecting the past with the present. Using design strategies and vibrant colors inspired by 1940's magazines, these digital photographs are laid out on a grid creating a composition of overlapping squares. Complex layering creates dynamic tensions between the different eras represented and suggests a continuity in the cycle of development and decay for the modern metropolis. back to project index
